What To Do Now?

Nothing is easy.

Everyday we are bombarded with new ideas, new trends, new exercises and diets.  TV News reports about the "5 new exercises" that will make you look slimmer and more muscular.  The newspaper article that tells you about the new "superfood" that will give your body plenty of antioxidants and make you healthier, really?  Big Business telling us that in order to be fit and healthy we must eat and drink their products, right?...the buzz words "antioxidant", "free-radical", "electrolyte", "whole grain", and "omega 3 fatty acid"....does anyone question before they buy into the gimic of the hour?  How do they help again?  If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Nothing is hard.

How hard is it to put a chicken and vegetables in a crockpot once or twice a week and come home to a great kitchen smell and a healthy dinner?  How hard is it to schedule two to three 10 minutes exercises and/or stretching during your day...everyday?  How hard is it to skip the soda and try tea or water?  Do your children follow your eating habits of snack food ?  or...Do they have access to fruits and vegetables on the kitchen counter and in the fridge?

 It starts with You.

"You must go through the tough times.  You must go through the process.  Experience is the best education." Duke's Hall of Fame Coach Mike Krzyzewski said those words in an interview and it rings true for everyone.  To understand what one is going through you must first have been there too.  Is it easy to go through the drive thru at a fast food place or go to a sit down restaurant?  I would argue that it takes the same amount of time to make the food yourself.  Is it easy to sit on the couch and watch television?  Get up during the commercials and do some exercises.  Are you 10, 20, 30 pounds over your desired weight?  Did you fail to hit your personal goals this month?   Are you wondering where to start?

The tough times are now.  If you are considering which exercise program to start, what club or group to join, or how to revamp your diet, then you are deciding how to improve YOU!  I commend you.

Start the process by talking to people that have been where you are now.  How did they do it, how long did it take, what made them successful, and what were some pitfalls?  Asking for help shows that you are wanting and willing to change.

Destination Success
Lastly, you will only understand how to become your best by doing!  Experience comes with action, movement, sweat, tears, successes and failures.  Remember that failure makes us stronger and is the best educator in the world.  The difference between a winner and a loser is that a winner fails, gets back up,and does it again with modifications to excel.  A loser stays down, complains, and looks for another way that is easier with little effort.

Which are you?

This month I challenge you to make one change in your routine and see how it effects your health.  On the Rethink Running site I have a 10 minute challenge of push-ups and squat routines to make you stronger, literally from head to toe.

Nothing is easy, nothing is hard, it starts with you!

Distance is relative.  -Ham
