At What Point Do You Think It Is OK?

We finished up the 50 mile run last week with Lisa Smith Batchen. And she is still running...what an accomplishment and a dream. I am humbled by her effort in time and sweat to make a change toward childrens lives for the better by running so far in such little time.

Now on to actual human acheivement. There comes a point during your run when you think you cannot move anymore, everything hurts and quitting is inevitable. This is when you mentally must push through the pain. Am I talking about 50 mile runs...not exactly...1, 5, 8, 10, and even 13 mile runs are extremely hard at some point in a running career and are the stepping stones to higher and more extreme miles. Once you find the toughness to get past this moment you will find "bliss" in the run. Some might call it a "high" or "flow"...suit yourself...but only you can find it after you turn the corner of Quit and Pain and head toward the crossroads of Relentless and Happiness.

Back to the 50 mile run. We are at mile 45 and Lisa is getting board with the 5 mile loop so she wants to play a game...a game?...we have 5 miles to go...OK...I'll play. We then proceed to scour parking lots for coins. Not just parking lots that are street level but parking garages that are 4 to 5 stories high. Have you ever run stairs after 45 miles? Not only did we hit 5 parking garages around the Legacy/Tollway area but someone...Patton...got the bright idea to do a burpee after each penny found...remember we are at mile 48. I took it a step further and said 5 broad jump burpees. Well long story short I found 5 cents so Patton had to do 25 and he found 2 dimes...so the first time I did 50 push-ups and the second time 50 bench dips. So the title of this blog comes in... "At what point do you think it is ok?". Find your "high" and ask yourself...I know you will come up with some good answers.
