Gary Burns 5K

Where do I start on how the group did in the Gary Burns 5K this morning.  We had a couple of PR's, a top 10 finisher, 4 top 20 finishers, and a sweep in the male age group 35-39!  Did I mention that we also took first place in the Civic Team category and we beat the student team by 40 seconds.  Jamie R., two weeks after running a sub 4 hour marathon placed third in age.  Ray and Charlie, 4th and 5th in age.  Tim, 7th in age.  Kuda, 2nd in age.  Evan, Kevin, and Hamlin placed 1...2...3 in age.  Zach and Ed had PR's.  Bobby and Larry had solid runs today too.  The past couple of months have led up to this race and there is excitement at the Monday group runs.  We will be looking forward to the Frosty 5K & Merry Mile Saturday, Dec. 11 and for those interested, we will build up to the Collin County Full and Half Marathon Sunday, March 6.  We will start a half marathon training class soon.

I want to thank everyone for their continued support of the Frisco Running Club and dedication to the sport of running.

Now a story...
During the race there was a girl running in front of me.  I finally catch up to her at mile 1.5 and we start to run together.  As we hit mile 2, I said to her "Now we start to pick people off.", and away we go... one, two, three people we pass.  Within 60 seconds she had blown past me and Kevin being the first female overall.  After the run I congratulated her and that was that right?....No.  Her mother found me later...like I was hard to find wearing a clown wig, and thanked me for keeping her daughter motivated during the run.  She also went on to say that if our club helps to motivate runners during a race then you guys must be great motivators for the community.  That's what running is all about...motivating others to believe that when we work as a team anything can be accomplished.  Did I tell you she is 16!  Great job TEAM!  Have a great Halloween.
